The earliest record of racing on the Buffalo Raceway was on Tuesday 30th June 1942 on a 4 furlong oval racecourse which now benefits from floodlights enabling it to offer evening racing. The Standardbred track in Hamburg, in New York State, some 22 kilometres south of Buffalo, was the brainchild of J Dunnigan who spotted the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg as the ideal location to open a track, particularly as the state had chosen to relax its gambling laws. The half mile track has a 195 metre home straight and enjoys a grandstand with the capacity to hold up to 5000 people.
